Singer 400 Series Sewing Machine
With the exception of the 401, 403, 404, 411, 412 and 431 all the other 400 series models are of a similar family.
They were aluminium bodied zigzag machines with a plastic frontplate into which were mounted all the control levers and knobs. The 449 was an exception in that is was a straight stitch only version . They utilised a horizontal rotating hook mechanism with an internal type SN open frame motor built into the main pillar of the machine. A lamp was incorporated into the underside of the top arm. These models were built during the time frame 1968 to 1978.
NOTE - During 1969 the model 466 was modified to provide a quick-change throat plate and feed cover plate.
